Every year on Unity Day weekend, Sun City held a massive festival, covering the great Diamond Park in the middle of the city, the Diamond Park Amphitheater right beside it, and the streets all around. Musical performances and plays performed in DPA, where anyone could go and enjoy themselves for only a few dollars; practically free, considering how pricey it normally was. Half of the park was covered in carnival rides and games, all requiring tickets or a special bracelet that let one ride or play anything they wanted all day; very popular with kids and families. The other half of the park had a large picnic and dining area, along with space for athletic competitions, with the streets nearby packed with food stalls, sports vendors, and two or three stalls offering alcoholic drinks(with ID, of course). Streets on either side of the park were filled with vendors and stalls selling all sorts of things; jewelry, custom art, clothing, snacks and drinks, souvenirs, 'tribal' charms and idols, small pets, Pokemon treats, fans, fortunes and lucky charms, exotic items from other regions, mystical oddities...People of all race and gender selling their wares, often with the help of friends and family, rotating watching the stall so everyone can get a chance to explore the carnival. Bigger businesses often set up advertising stalls as well, mixed in with the smaller vendors, spreading word and sometimes giving away cheap little branded things, like pens or buttons. Politicians can be seen doing the same, with staff members manning a campaign stall and trying to convince islanders to vote for them instead of their opponents. They used to be grouped all together in one area, but after a fistfight broke out between opposing camps four years ago, they're found scattered throughout like everyone else.
It's a packed, wonderful, and very productive time for Sun City. The event started small, but quickly grew to the massive weekend festival it is today; undoubtedly helped by the fact that entering the festival grounds is completely free. Some tourists and a cruise line even make plans specifically for it, making sure to be in Sun City that weekend to get the most out of the experience. Residents from other islands get hotel discounts at nearby places for the weekend to encourage them to come, and judging by the turnout each year, it certainly works. Humans, Gijinkas, Pokemorphs, the rarer Elementals, the the even rarer Chimera can be found roaming the carnival peacefully, usually with family and friends. The police presence is heightened during the weekend, as incidents do occur(usually fistfights and streaking), but usually things are peaceful to the point where cops themselves will go around, enjoying themselves even in uniform.
Amber floated through the crowds on 12th Street, eagerly examining the stalls that she and her p0kemon passed. Ever since getting official documents and a cover story from Doctor Moon, Amber's been more open about her powers and appearance, wearing a light, short sundress instead of the long, flowing garb she used to. Being around others with similar, if not stranger, features helps as well. While Marie perched on the girl's shoulder, Archimedes kept pace behind them, looking down at a map and telekinetically relaying information to his companion about interesting little events going on either now or in the near future.
-Ah, it looks like there's a band playing in the Amphitheater in an hour or so!- -Oh? Who is it?- -'Hyper Dream', apparently. Looks like some sort of...Hoenn-based electronic dance group? I can't make heads or tails of their band blurb.- -Eh, I'll pass, but I'll keep the name in mind for later. We should get Doc something for helping us out. What do you think he would like?-
