Name: Cosette DeVere
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Species: Human
Appearance: A lovely young woman with an average figure, though a bit on the short side at 5'5". Her long purple hair is typically pulled back into a ponytail, coming to the middle of her back when down, to keep it out of her face when working. Her eyes are a nice light gray, which is particularly strange because her mother had blue eyes and her father green. Weird. Faint scars can be seen on her legs, arms, and even torso from an accident as a child, and she's particularly sensitive about them, but she usually tries to cover them up with makeup or clothing.
Cosette dresses well and stays stylish, which one would expect of a clothing designer. She has a fondness for blacks, whites, and pinks, though she can be seen in most any color but yellow(as it doesn't go well with her skin tone). The strangest outfit she has is a gypsy dress, which she wears whenever she's doing work as a medium; exorcisms, spiritual investigations, cleansings, speaking with the dead, etc. Tags with strange runes can be found in her pouch, along with writing material to make more, and more runes can be found along the hem of her dress to ward against attacks. It may look ridiculous, but she makes it work and, given her success rate, it certainly seems to help. She can do her job without the dress, but she feels far safer with it.
Personality: Cosette is bright, driven, and exceedingly strange. Which is just fine by her. She tries to look on the bright side of life(and death), but can lose her temper if someone is particularly agitating. Fashion is her passion, and she often gives advice to those suffering from bad style, whether they asked for it or not, and wants to see everyone be wonderfully chic. As such, her boutique is one of the several that offer exclusive tailoring and design options for non-human islanders, ranging from simple tail hole additions to entire closets of outfits for every occasion. Humans, Gijinkas, Pokemorphs, Elementals...No matter the race, everyone deserves to look fantastic.
Besides fashion, she also has a fascination with and in-depth knowledge of all things spooky, scary, and creepy, particularly ghosts and Ghost-typed creatures. She just loves the morbid and occult, and even works as a medium for fun. No ghost can scare her, and she'll likely find their attempts adorable and endearing instead of scary. However, Cosette does absolutely loathe bugs, and had a crippling fear of them for a long time; she'll still work and do her best with Bug-typed clients, but it definitely impacts her interactions.
History: Cosette was born and raised in Dendemille Town, Kalos, to a fashionista mother and a hard-working father. Rumors abound that she wasn't her father's child - she didn't look like him, they had no other children, her mother had just gotten out of a relationship before dating her father and finding out she was pregnant, etc. - but as far as she was concerned, the man who raised her was her father. She was well loved and taken care of, living a simple life in the simple town. Her father's Mightyena often kept an eye on her and followed her during her little adventures into the surrounding areas, making sure the little girl was safe and sound. A simple job...
...Or not. At age 6, Cosette decided to be a brave little girl and explore the ruins of the Lost Hotel, with her dolly Louise in her hands and her father's Mightyena at her side. She went down to the underground area, fascinated by the ghostly voices and wisps she saw out of the corner of her eye, and wandered down a crumbling corridor to follow a little ball of light. The ceiling cracked and fell; the Mightyena tried to push her out of the way, but couldn't react in time, and Cosette was crushed. He bolted back to town to fetch help before it was too late, Cosette was rescued at the brink of death from the rubble, and her dolly was left behind. She was rushed to the small hospital, where the staff worked feverishly to try and save the little girl; she was fixed up as much as possible and put on life support, comatose and unresponsive. In the dead of night, her heart stopped and she died.
All she remembers is a Duskull holding her hand, a feeling of weightlessness, and a fuzzy, distorted landscape where she met a massive winged figure, eyes glowing red and staring into her soul. One of the red-tipped 'wings' reached out and touched her chest, and she came to in a hospital room, where nurses and doctors were trying to bring her back to life. The Duskull had followed her, and she felt a strong connection to it, as if it was protecting her. One of the nurses tried to get the pokemon out of Cosette's room, but the girl fussed and cried as much as she could in her current state until the Duskull returned, and they decided to just let it stay. She referred to it as 'Angel' and insisted it was her new friend, which initially worried her parents, but the pokemon seemed peaceful and tame already, so they let her keep it.
In the weeks and months that followed, Cosette underwent physical therapy to regain the use of her limbs, was homeschooled to keep her up to date in her education, and slowly healed to regain a relatively 'normal' life. The Mightyena seemed very apologetic, and did his best to carry her around and be supportive as she recovered, while Angel simply watched and stayed nearby. Cosette kept talking to her Duskull and having little conversations with it, when seemed one-sided to most everyone around her, and her parents just hoped she didn't have too much brain damage from the accident. Eventually, she was able to start school again and even walk relatively well, though she had to use a cane for another two years and still limps from time to time to this day.
At age 14, Cosette decided she wanted to become a pokemon trainer, and begged her parents to let her and Angel explore Kalos so she could live her dream. They were hesitant, but after getting her father on her side her mother relented, making Cosette promise to call and visit often so they knew she was all right. Cosette and Angel set off on their journey, which would begin in Lumiose City and take them all over Kalos. Rena was a Froakie given to her by Professor Sycamore's predecessor, and the quirky little frog and the strange girl became fast friends. She made friends and rivals on her journey, gained eight badges, called her parents often, and had a blast over two years of travel and adventure. Cosette even considered taking part in the Kalos League Championships, but decided instead to return home and pursue a career in fashion, just like her mother.
Shortly after she returned home, her father died in an accident at the Windmill, and mother and daughter moved to Lumiose to grieve and heal. Her newly-widowed mother got a job at Boutique Couture to support her daughter, and to try and achieve her own dream of becoming a fashion icon, and soon Cosette joined her to help out financially. The DeVere name became modestly known in fashion circles, associated with modern style and quality, and they even had a small, high-end clothing line sold in the Boutique. It was a modest living, and they lived comfortably enough that Cosette could afford to set aside plenty of money to move out. She may have gone overboard a bit, moving all the way to the Tarot Islands once she turned 21, but it seems to have worked out well. She runs her own little boutique in Port Priestess, known as DeVere Designs, and has made a nice little name for herself in the community, even being recommended to first-generation pokemorphs as one of their tailoring options for new clothes. On the side she does occult investigations, going all over the islands to check out hot spots of paranormal activity and rumors of ghostly shenanigans. None of this has left much time for romance, though she does hold hopes of finding someone 'perfect'.
Powers: Cosette has the ability to speak with Ghost-type pokemon and spirits, and can even access the spirit world through a ritual to talk to those who have left this world. She can do most anything a standard medium can do as well through her training, and has in-depth knowledge of the occult and Ghost pokemon. Ghost pokemon, gijinkas, and pokemorphs are drawn to her, and ghost pokemon are easier to command. Can create cleanse tags, protective wards, etc. to protect against ghostly encounters or invasions.
Pokemon Owned: 3
~Pokemon~
Name: Angel
Species: Dusknoir
Gender: Female?(Hard to hell, but Cosette uses feminine pronouns)
Moves: Payback, Shadow Punch, Confuse Ray, Disable
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Patient
Details: Angel is Cosette's guardian and protector, returning to the land of the living with Cosette and remaining with her until she passes on for good. She is the most level-headed and calm of her pokemon, and undoubtedly the most intelligent and wise, given she is many, MANY years older than them. Often a confidant for Cosette in her time of need, trusted and loyal throughout almost twenty years together.
Name: Rena
Species: Greninja
Gender: Female
Moves: Water Pledge, Water Shuriken, Ice Beam, Night Slash
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Quirky
Details: Rena is Cosette's second pokemon, one given to her by Professor Sycamore at the start of her trainer's journey. The two bonded quickly, irritating Angel with their strangeness and love of style; Rena likes to feel pretty and lets Cosette dress her up and model her accessories. You'd be surprised how well one can rock a hair bow with no hair. However, she does have a serious side in battle, and does her best to unleash a world of pain onto anyone who opposes or threatens Cosette with lightning-fast speed. Has a fondness for pastries, especially cupcakes.
Name: Lou
Species: Banette
Gender: Male
Moves: Phantom Force, Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, Trick
Ability: Insomnia
Nature: Lonely
Details: Lou started life as Louise, the beloved little stuffed doll of Cosette as a child. He was left behind in the rubble after Cosette's tragic accident, gaining new life months later as a vengeful Banette. The two reunited many years later, after Cosette was 15 and returning home during a lull in her journey; she stopped by the Lost Hotel on a whim, curious to see if it was still holding up underground. Lou followed behind sneakily, feeling a strong sense of familiarity with the girl, and tried to attack her and Angel, now a Dusclops. This did not end well for Lou, as Angel easily stomped him. Cosette took pity and introduced herself, at which point Lou realized exactly who she was. There was a heartfelt reunion, and Lou has been with Cosette again ever since.
