Name: Laurel Oceania
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Species: Latios Gijinka
Appearance: Laurel is despite what any prophecy says is in essence an eighteen year old boy. His hair is somewhat long and unkempt for a male, likely due to the nature of his species (and not having much opportunity to cut it). An obvious trait showing his relation to Latios is the two tufts of hair spiking upwards on the sides of his head that no amount of water or gel seems to keep down. He has a taller but thin frame due him not being particularly strong and being a vegetarian. He also typically dresses in white and blue; his favorite colors, even if it’s only because of a subconscious imitation of his Pokemon species. On his back are two large blue wings like that of a Latios that fold inward when not in use, and like a Latios his eyes are a bright red.
Personality: Laurel is one to be fairly quiet and reserved, but wise beyond his years. Raised into an all Gijinka tribe on Wand Island, he’s unused to interacting with people he isn’t familiar with, and was usually busy with his studies and trying to live up to the standards set for him instead of making friends. However, he does have a fondness for Pokemon (and for his sister Lily), especially since they tend to have much expectations for him.
Between him and his sister, Laurel is the more grounded and sagelike of the two. He generally bases his decisions on rational thought and seeks out new experiences to expand his own knowledge and see the beauty of what the world has to offer. Though not particularly impulsive he gets bored from staying in one place for too long and likes to travel around the Tarot Islands and see how things have changed from the last time he had been there.
Laurel has an endless fascination of life and nature, and a love for soaring through the skies and find the open air and warm sunlight. He has a fondness for meditating life’s mysteries out in quiet, far off places untouched by civilization. Beyond that, he also likes talking to Pokemon and hearing what they have to say, more interested in their lives than anything the complications of an organized society have to offer.
All this isn’t to say that he absolutely hates other people, civilization, and everything they stand for, but… in his opinion, they aren’t for him. Humans in particular he is cautious around since he grew up in a society without many of them around and most of what he knows about them is how they live in cities, and cut down forests and other Pokemon habitats to make room for their own steel jungles. Mostly he just keeps away from other people for his sister’s sake, since he thinks they’re a lot more likely to hurt her than any Pokemon.
Since he is a Latios, Laurel can feel the emotions of other creatures. When he can feel negative emotion from others he will will get wary and likely be protective of his sister if she’s nearby. Conversely, when he can feel positive emotion he’ll tend to be more trusting and open to conversation.
History: Lauren was born in a larger but secluded Gijinka village on Wand Island to a Flygon Gijinka father and a Psychic Elemental mother. Their mother was a respected in their society, so when she told them that she foresaw that her children were destined for greatness, they didn’t hold doubt that she was simply showing favoritism and awaited their birth eagerly. First came Laurel, and thus the tribe was sure that he was the fulfillment of an old prophecy that Gijinkas siblings would be born with the blood of Legendaries and become guardians for the islands and their village. So he spent the earlier part of his life being taught separately from the other children by the elders of the village, and spending more time studying than playing or making friends. He mostly stayed resigned to his duties, assuring himself that it was for the better of everyone that he did as he was told. What little time he had to himself, he mostly spent with his younger sister Lily, which was just about the only excitement he got in his life. With how energetic and free spirited she was, he always worked harder and harder on his own studies in the hopes that it would make their teachers more lenient on her because his own work made up for it. Unfortunately, if anything, it only made them more angry that his sister did not have a work ethic like him. Still he did his best to support her in his own little ways, like not telling on her when she was shirking off work and sneaking off with her to play when time allowed it.
Then one day six years ago, while he was in the other room doing some more schoolwork, he overheard his parents having a mostly one sided conversation with one of their teachers. The older Gijinka was telling them of how he and the other teachers were getting increasingly frustrated that she wouldn’t study to try to become the guardian she was meant to be, spending her days playing instead, and that their usual methods of discipline weren’t working. He then went on to explain doing their own part in disciplining Lily, most importantly including physical methods like slapping her or spanking her if she misbehaved. Without any hesitation at hearing this, Laurel dropped what he was doing and snuck out the window to go find Lily, who was likely out playing as usual. It was clear to him at this point that this whole ‘guardian’ thing wasn’t working out for her and she simply wouldn’t be happy unless she could be free to do whatever she wants. At the same time, he couldn’t just leave his sister alone, and decided that he had to go with her and protect her. Being a guardian was important, but nothing was more important to him than his sister. Times were rough at first with them being so young at the time, but between Laurel’s knowledge and the strength of a Latios and Lily’s experience with Pokemon and the outdoors as well as the compassionate nature of a Latias, the two of them managed to live off the land. They rarely stay in one place, hopping from island to island, staying away from civilization and staying out in the wild. And... perhaps ironically, become guardians of the islands of a sort, at least to its wilderness.
Moves: Luster Purge, Draco Meteor, Safeguard, Telekinesis
Ability: Levitate
Powers: Like the Pokemon he is based on, Lauren can fly, communicate telepathically, sense people’s emotions, and reflect the light around his body to create illusions such as shape changing or turning invisible (though his body does not actually change, it only looks like it does).

“I am ready,” Laurel answered his sister as he stood in a proper stance for a racer standing at the start line of a race, his wings unfolding as he prepared to take flight towards the top of Death’s Peaks.
At the sound of his sister calling “Go!” he immediately launched himself forward with enough momentum to leave a dust cloud in his wake. As he flew downwards into the jungle of Sword Island he dodged around trees, a little bit behind but mostly keeping pace with Lily. Laurel did like racing with his sister, and though he was equally as fast as her he tended to be less competitive about the whole thing and a lot more careful so he usually lost, even if his sister occasionally crashed as she occasionally did since he would always stop the race to make sure she was ok. Though the trees were numerous they had raced through this part of the jungle many times before so Laurel knew it well enough to be able to dodge everything ahead of him as he moved forward. Of course, going at a slightly slower pace than his sibling and keeping out a watchful eye he noticed the figure in front of her path before she did, but before he could say anything she had already crashed into them, both of them toppling to the ground. Protective instincts kicking in, Laurel immediately stopped himself and hovered over to a tree branch right above the pair to make sure Lily was ok.
In the undergrowth it was harder to see the two of them on the ground and for a brief moment Laurel got worried that his sister was seriously hurt before she started moving. Hearing a voice, he leaned forward and tried to get a better look before flinching and nearly falling off of his perch as Lily shrieked, turned invisible, and went into hiding.
After watching her run off, the Latios Gijinka turned back to see… a human? What in the world was a human doing in such a secluded place? He wouldn’t have thought one would leave the city to come to a forest like this, unless… he needed something here. “You, human.” The human looked up to see the blue and white clad Gijinka standing above him and looked even more confused than he was before. “What is your business on Sword Island? Only Pokemon live here.”
“Um… I was here to tame some Pokemon? I’m a trainer…” The human answered unconfidently. Laurel scoffed; of course that’s why a human would come here, to take Pokemon out of their natural environment to use for their own devices. “This island is one with untouched nature and beauty; your kind has not yet sullied it, nor will they do so now. Leave this place, and do not return unless you plan to live with nature rather than against it.”
The human shyly nodded, and being intimidated after getting tackled by one Gijinka and scolded by another, got up and ran into the undergrowth off towards the way he came from, back to the bay where a ship was likely waiting for him.
It then occurred to Laurel, as the human ran away, that this was the first time he had ever met one himself. He had heard plenty about them, and seen them on things like newspapers and such, but he’d never actually spoken to one himself. Well, at least this one had the sense to leave when he realized that he was unwelcome on Sword Island. He had seen signs of an abandoned camp and similar signs of people being on the island before, so this human was not the first to come here and wouldn’t be the last.
He turned his attention back to Lily, who had reappeared after the coast was clear and shouted after the human, “Y-yeah! This is our island!”
“Now now Lily, this isn’t our island. This island belongs to the Pokemon; we are simply their welcome guests.” The difference between them and the human of course was that they left the forest and its inhabitants undisturbed.
Lily flew up to his perch on the branch and landed next to him. “I know that, silly, I just meant… well… you know what I meant!” He nodded in response, figuring she probably did know that. “Was that… was that really a human? I mean I know what they look like from like, pictures and the news ‘n stuff, but like… here?”
Laurel put an arm around her shoulder, feeling a need to keep her close after being worried that she had been hurt just moments before. “It seems so. Given their habits of training Pokemon for their own needs, I’m not surprised one would be found hunting for them here. I don’t think this one shall return though.”
“Good…” his sister responded while fluttering her wings, “I felt a weird sensation from him. Like he was trying to be… in control.”
He nodded again, this time more solemnly. “That is the power of a human; they are good at controlling Pokemon for a reason. The aura they radiate... It’s all the more reason to be careful around them.”
“They… can’t control us, right?” Lily asked with a concerned look. Not looking too worried, he waved it off. “Thankfully no. We’ve got nothing to worry about, but the Pokemon of this island can’t say the same thing.”
“Let’s see where he goes,” his sister demanded. Laurel thought that she had a good point, and silently got up to take flight after the human, vanishing from sight so that the human would noticed being followed.
